This red-and-white palace at the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and the Fontanka is a vivid example of the neo-Baroque revival, its facade crowded with columns and figures of muscular atlantes framing the ground-floor windows. Built for a princely family in the mid-nineteenth century, it was among the last great private residences erected on the city's main avenue. Its richly gilded interiors now host exhibitions and concerts, echoing the earlier Baroque palaces of Rastrelli.
