This Neoclassical Catholic church on Nevsky Prospekt is the oldest and largest Roman Catholic parish in Russia, its curved facade set back from the avenue behind a small forecourt. Completed in the late eighteenth century to a design associated with Vallin de la Mothe and Rinaldi, it served the city's diverse foreign communities and holds the tomb of the last king of Poland, Stanislaw August. The spacious domed interior has been restored after a Soviet-era fire.
