National Library of Russia

Founded in the late eighteenth century, this is Russia's oldest public library and one of the earliest in the world. Its main building on Nevsky Prospekt features a classical colonnade overlooking Ostrovsky Square. Voltaire's personal library is among its celebrated holdings.
