The Great Bell Tower rises within the grounds of the historic cave monastery complex overlooking the Dnieper in Kyiv. Built in the eighteenth century in a classical style, it was for a long period one of the tallest free-standing structures in the region, with tiers of columns diminishing toward a gilded cupola. Visitors who climb its many steps are rewarded with a commanding view over the monastery's gold domes, the river and the far reaches of the city. The tower serves as a natural orientation point across the whole riverside heritage site.
