This working monastery on the wooded slopes above the Dnieper was founded in the late eleventh century by a son of a Kyivan prince, making it one of the city's oldest religious sites. Its compact ensemble includes a squat Romanesque-influenced church, a taller Baroque cathedral and a slender bell tower, reflecting phases across many centuries. Set below the botanical garden, the grounds are quiet and green, popular with pilgrims and walkers. Medieval masonry survives alongside later gilded interiors here.
