This covered market at the head of Khreshchatyk avenue opened in the early twentieth century and remains one of Kyiv's best-known food halls. Its steel-framed hall shelters stalls piled with fruit, cured meats, cheeses, honey, pickles and flowers, many run by long-established traders. The building's rounded corner and arched glass roof make it a notable early example of covered-market architecture in the city. Visitors come to sample regional specialities and photograph the lively interior.
