Mariyinsky Park is a landscaped garden on the high right bank of the Dnieper in Kyiv, laid out in the nineteenth century beside the palace it shares its name with and the parliament building. Its avenues of old trees, lawns and belvederes give sweeping views over the river and the low-lying left bank. Fountains, monuments and a footbridge link it to the neighbouring parks that run along the ridge. Popular with families and couples, the park is a quiet green counterpoint to the government quarter that borders it.
