The Bernardine Church and monastery form a fortified religious complex on the southeastern edge of Lviv's old town, built in the early seventeenth century when it also served as part of the city's defences. Its facade blends Renaissance and early Baroque forms and carries a row of statues along the gable. Inside are lavishly carved wooden altars and a venerated tomb, with a tall saint's column on the square before it. Visitors come for the interior and fortress-like setting.
