The largest public square inside the walls of Kotor, this open space lies just beyond the Sea Gate and served historically as the place where weapons were stored and repaired under Venetian rule, giving it its name. It is framed by notable buildings including the town clock tower, an old arsenal, a former guardhouse and Venetian palaces now used as hotels and cafés. A stone pillory once used for public punishment stands nearby. As the social hub of the old town the square bustles with visitors arriving through the main gate from the waterfront.
