The Roman Catholic cathedral of Kotor, consecrated in 1166, is one of the most important Romanesque monuments on the eastern Adriatic coast. Dedicated to the town's patron saint, it houses relics and a celebrated treasury of gold and silver reliquaries behind a carved stone ciborium above the altar. Damaged by repeated earthquakes over the centuries, its distinctive twin bell towers were rebuilt in differing styles. The interior preserves fragments of medieval frescoes and a rich collection of liturgical art.
