Occupying the old royal residence where King Otto and Queen Amalia lived in the 1830s, this museum near Klafthmonos Square documents the transformation of Athens into a modern capital. Period rooms are furnished as they were in the early years of the Greek kingdom, complete with portraits, furniture and personal items of the royal household. Galleries display maps, prints, paintings and models charting the city's growth from a small Ottoman town to a European capital.
