Kotzia Square is a spacious square in central Athens fronting the neoclassical city hall and framed by grand 19th-century buildings that survive from the era after Greek independence. Excavations during metro works uncovered an ancient road and tombs, part of which remain visible in a sunken section of the square. Once a flower market, it now hosts occasional book fairs and civic events. Its wide paving and restored façades make it one of the more dignified open spaces in the busy commercial district.
