Just below the cathedral, Dolac is the busiest farmers' market in Zagreb and a daily fixture of city life since it opened in the 1930s. Its raised open-air terrace bristles with red parasols sheltering stalls of seasonal produce, flowers, and homemade cheese, while the covered level below holds butchers, bakers, and fishmongers. Vendors known as kumice, traditionally women carrying goods from surrounding villages, still supply much of the fresh produce. The market sits at the seam between the historic upper town and the bustling lower town.
