The Spanish Synagogue is the most ornate of Prague's surviving synagogues, built in 1868 in an exuberant Moorish Revival style. Its interior is covered floor to ceiling in intricate arabesque patterns, gilded stucco, and stained glass inspired by the Alhambra, from which its name derives. Part of the Jewish Museum in Prague, it now houses exhibitions on the history of Bohemian and Moravian Jews and hosts classical concerts beneath its glittering dome. The building stands on the site of the city's oldest known synagogue in the former ghetto.
