The Piwna Gate and defensive ensemble around the northern approaches of old Kraków once anchored the city's medieval fortifications alongside the surviving Florian Gate and Barbican. Rows of brick towers, wall fragments and the earthwork lines that replaced the demolished ramparts trace the outline of the vanished defences, now largely converted into the green ring of the Planty gardens. Interpretive markers and preserved sections let visitors follow the former course of the walls.
