The Planty is a green belt encircling the old town of Kraków, laid out in the early nineteenth century on the line of the city's demolished medieval walls and moat. The ring of linked gardens forms a continuous shaded promenade roughly four kilometres long around the historic core. Paths wind past monuments, fountains and surviving fragments of the fortifications, including the Florian Gate and barbican. Benches, flowerbeds and mature trees make it a favourite strolling route for residents and visitors alike.
