Long Lane is the grand central thoroughfare of Gdańsk's Main Town, lined with tall, ornately gabled merchant houses that recall the city's wealthy Hanseatic past. Running from the Golden Gate to the Green Gate, it passes the town hall and opens into the wider Long Market. Rebuilt with great care after wartime destruction, its facades display carved portals, painted plasterwork and heraldic decoration of Dutch and Flemish influence. The pedestrian street is the ceremonial spine of the old city.
