St. Nicholas Church is among the oldest churches in Gdańsk and one of the very few in the city centre to survive the Second World War almost undamaged. A tall brick Gothic hall church, it belongs to the Dominican order and preserves a wealth of original Baroque furnishings, including a black-and-gold high altar, carved stalls and old paintings that were lost elsewhere. Its unusually intact interior gives a vivid sense of how the great merchant churches once appeared before the wartime fires. The adjoining priory grounds host the traditional St.
