The Nożyk Synagogue is the only surviving prewar synagogue in Warsaw, built in neo-Romanesque style and consecrated in 1902. Funded by the merchant Zalman Nożyk and his wife, it served the city's large Jewish community until the Second World War, when it was used as a warehouse and stable under occupation. Restored in the 1970s and again more recently, it once more functions as an active place of worship and a symbol of Jewish continuity in the city.
