The Old Market Hall stands on Helsinki's south harbour and is the city's oldest indoor market, opened in the late nineteenth century in a red-brick building near the waterfront. Beneath its long timber ceiling, stalls sell fish, meat, cheese, baked goods and Finnish specialities alongside small cafes serving traditional dishes. Its position beside the ferry quays and market square makes it a natural stop for both residents shopping and visitors sampling local food.
