Storkyrkan, the cathedral of Stockholm, sits in the heart of the old town beside the royal palace and dates in its earliest form to the thirteenth century. Behind a Baroque exterior lies a brick Gothic hall church whose vaults shelter renowned artworks, including a large medieval sculpture of Saint George and the Dragon and a rare fifteenth-century depiction of a solar phenomenon over the city. It has hosted coronations and royal weddings across the centuries.
