This hilltop church and former Augustinian convent crowns one of Lisbon's highest points, giving its neighbouring viewpoint views over the castle and river. Founded in the thirteenth century, it was rebuilt after the great earthquake and blends baroque and rococo elements, with an interior housing a venerated image carried in Holy Week processions. The adjoining terrace, shaded by pines and dotted with a café kiosk, is a popular gathering place at sunset, when low light gilds the rooftops spilling toward the water.
