This monastery church, rebuilt in a severe late-Renaissance style around 1600, honours Saint Vincent, the patron of Lisbon whose relics were said to arrive by sea guarded by ravens. Its white marble facade rises above the Alfama, and the adjoining monastery corridors carry one of Portugal's most extensive displays of blue-and-white tiles, including scenes from the fables of La Fontaine. The former refectory now serves as the royal pantheon of the House of Braganza, and the rooftop grants a broad view over the old city.
