This baronial mansion stands on the slopes of Cave Hill overlooking the city and the lough beyond. The present house was completed in 1870 for the Marquess of Donegall in the Scottish baronial style, replacing an earlier castle in the town centre. Its terraced gardens include a cat garden that plays on a local legend that good luck follows a white cat living at the castle. Walking trails from the grounds climb Cave Hill toward the basalt outcrop known as Napoleon's Nose, offering panoramic views.
