The Cathedral Quarter is the oldest surviving district of Belfast, clustered around St. Anne's Cathedral in the northern part of the city centre. Its narrow cobbled entries and Victorian warehouses recall the era when the area was the commercial and warehousing heart of the industrial city. Once neglected, the quarter has been regenerated as a cultural district, with theatres, galleries, murals and traditional pubs filling the old buildings. Historic thoroughfares and hidden alleyways preserve the 18th- and 19th-century street pattern.
