This Victorian public house on Great Victoria Street is one of the most ornate surviving gin palaces in the British Isles and is protected by the National Trust. Remodelled in the 1880s using craftsmen who worked on nearby churches, it features tiled columns, etched glass, a carved ceiling and a long granite-topped bar. Its most distinctive feature is a row of enclosed wooden snugs, each fitted with a bell to summon staff. The richly decorated interior has made it a landmark of Belfast's social history.
