Now part of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and known as Modern Two, this neoclassical building west of the centre was originally a nineteenth-century orphan hospital. It holds a major collection of Dada and Surrealist works alongside a recreation of the studio of Edinburgh-born sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi, whose towering figure of Vulcan dominates the entrance hall. Landscaped grounds and sculpture-filled lawns connect it to the neighbouring gallery, combining grand architecture with modern art.
