Solang Valley

Solang Valley is a broad alpine meadow above Manali in Himachal Pradesh, framed by the snow peaks of the Pir Panjal range. A short drive from a popular hill station, it has become northern India's busiest adventure playground, packing paragliding, zip-lines, zorbing and winter snow sports into one scenic bowl.

Short tandem paragliding flights launch from the slopes above the meadow, giving quick, accessible hops over the valley with big mountain views — ideal for first-timers wanting a taste of flight rather than a long cross-country. Alongside the flying, operators run zip-lines strung across the valley, giant zorbing balls rolling down the grassy slopes, and quad-bike rides, while a ropeway climbs the ridge for higher launches and views. In winter the meadow turns to snow, with beginner skiing, snowboarding and tubing.

The valley's strength is its variety and access rather than wilderness solitude — it is developed and can be busy, especially in peak holiday periods, but that also makes it an easy place to sample several activities in a day. Manali's cafés, hot springs and the high Rohtang Pass road lie close by.

Seasons split by activity: paragliding, zip-lines and zorbing run best from around March to June and September to November, when the meadow is green and the weather settled; snow sports take over from December to February. The monsoon brings rain and landslide risk in mid-summer. At altitude the air is cool year-round, so carry layers, and expect crowds during Indian holiday seasons.
