Manali is a high-altitude hill station and gateway town in the Beas River Valley at approximately 2,050 metres, serving as the main launchpad for treks and drives into Rohtang Pass, Lahaul, and Spiti. Old Manali village retains a quieter character with apple orchards and cedar forests, while the main bazaar area offers the full range of adventure-tourism infrastructure. The Hadimba Devi Temple, a distinctive wooden pagoda-style shrine set in a deodar cedar forest, is the town's most photographed landmark.
