The state's principal history museum, housed in a colonial-era former school building on Farquhar Street. Galleries walk through Penang's layered communities, from Malay, Chinese, Indian and Eurasian heritage to the island's role in the spice trade and the Straits Settlements. Period furniture, costume, old maps and photographs make it a useful first stop before exploring the heritage streets outside.
