A summit rising 3,152 meters above sea level on the eastern edge of Bogotá, Monserrate is topped by a white colonial church visible from across the city. A funicular railway and cable car serve the peak, while a steep stone staircase draws pilgrims and fitness climbers. The view from the summit extends over the entire urban grid of Bogotá spreading westward across the savanna.
