Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood occupies the blocks immediately east of Independence Hall and contains the highest concentration of eighteenth-century American civic history in the country. The Liberty Bell, relocated to its purpose-built pavilion adjacent to Independence Hall, receives approximately 1.5 million visitors annually. Elfreth's Alley, running between Arch and Race streets, is a narrow cobblestone lane lined with 32 intact early eighteenth-century rowhouses and is considered the oldest continuously occupied residential street in the United States.
