This handsome Georgian guild hall in Old City Philadelphia was built in the early 1770s by the Carpenters' Company, a society of master builders. In 1774 it hosted the First Continental Congress, where delegates from the colonies met to coordinate resistance to British policies, a crucial step toward independence. Still owned by the same trade organization that built it, the compact brick building remains open to the public with exhibits on its history and colonial craftsmanship.
