A royal water palace built in 1948 by the last raja of Karangasem in eastern Bali, Tirta Gangga is set around a series of tiered pools, fountains, and ornamental ponds fed by natural springs at the foot of Mount Agung. Stone carvings of mythological figures line the pathways between the pools, and the surrounding gardens include centuries-old trees and rice terraces descending to a stream below. The site serves as both a royal memorial and a public bathing place.
