The royal palace of the Karangasem kingdom in Amlapura, eastern Bali, Puri Agung Karangasem blends Balinese, Dutch, and Chinese architectural elements reflecting the political relationships of the late colonial period. The complex contains several courtyards with pavilions, bathing pools, and a grand reception hall called Maskerdam — named after Amsterdam — decorated with European-style furniture given by the Dutch colonial administration. The palace remains the residence of the Karangasem royal family and is partially open to visitors.
