Perched on the slopes of Mount Lempuyang in eastern Bali, this ancient Hindu temple complex is one of the island's six sanctuaries of the directions. The split candi bentar gate at the lower temple frames a direct view of Mount Agung on a clear day, making it one of Bali's most sought-after photography compositions. The full ascent through forested jungle to the upper temple involves over 1,700 steps.
