A string of small fishing villages along a black-sand bay on the northeast coast of Bali in Karangasem regency, Amed is one of the island's primary sites for shore diving and snorkeling, with the Japanese USAT Liberty shipwreck at nearby Tulamben being within easy reach. Jukung outrigger fishing boats on the dark beach with Mount Agung rising behind form one of Bali's most composed landscape photography subjects in the early morning hours. The area is drier and quieter than the south Bali coast.
