Riffelsee is a small tarn at 2,757 metres on the Riffelberg above Zermatt, accessible from the Rotenboden station on the Gornergrat Railway. The lake's sheltered position means it holds water even in drier months, and at dawn the Matterhorn is reflected almost symmetrically in its surface. The reflection photograph is one of the most reproduced alpine images in the world.
