Gornergrat is a rocky ridge at 3,089 metres above Zermatt, reached by the highest open-air cogwheel railway in Europe. The summit terrace looks directly at the Matterhorn and across the second-largest glacial system in the Alps, the Monte Rosa-Gorner Glacier confluence. The 360-degree panorama encompasses 29 peaks above 4,000 metres, making this one of the most panoramically complete viewpoints accessible by rail in Switzerland.
