Vienna's Gothic cathedral, known as Stephansdom or St. Stephen's Cathedral, rises at the centre of the Innere Stadt and has defined the city's skyline since the 14th century. Its most distinctive feature is the patterned glazed-tile roof of the south tower, while the narrow north tower — left unfinished in the 15th century — houses the Pummerin, one of the largest bells in the world. Catacombs beneath the church contain bone houses and Habsburg viscera interred across several centuries.
