Mykines is the westernmost island of the Faroe Islands, a small, sparsely inhabited island accessible by ferry or helicopter from Vágar. Its western headland, Mykineshólmur, is reached by a footbridge over a narrow sea strait and is home to one of the Faroe Islands' largest puffin colonies, along with gannets nesting on the sea stacks below the lighthouse. The Atlantic horizon from the headland lighthouse is unobstructed in all western directions.
