Gásadalur is a small remote village on the island of Vágar, set on a shelf of land high above the sea with views of the Múlafossur waterfall plunging over the cliff edge directly below. The village was accessible only by mountain path until a tunnel opened in 2004, and its former isolation accounts for its preserved appearance of traditional stone and turf-roofed buildings. The composition of the waterfall, village, and open Atlantic beyond is one of the most iconic images of the Faroe Islands.
