Palace of Westminster and Westminster Abbey including Saint Margaret’s Church

Every English coronation since the 11th century has taken place in Westminster Abbey, which shares its Thames-side precinct with the Perpendicular Gothic Church of St Margaret and the Palace of Westminster, seat of Parliament. Rebuilt from 1840 over surviving medieval fabric after fire, the palace became the definitive statement of neo-Gothic architecture, its clock tower now a global symbol. UNESCO inscribed the ensemble in 1987.
