This memorial on Victoria Embankment beside the Thames honours the airmen who fought in the Battle of Britain in 1940. Unveiled in 2005, it was created from a former smoke-outlet structure whose granite panels are carved with high-relief bronze scenes of pilots scrambling to their aircraft, ground crews, and civilians sheltering below. Both sides of the long plinth list the names of the aircrew who took part, drawn from many nations. It sits along a busy riverside walk overlooking the water.
