Portcullis House is a parliamentary office building beside the Palace of Westminster, opened in 2001 to provide space for members of the House of Commons and their staff. Its distinctive rooftop chimneys and glass-roofed covered courtyard were designed by Michael Hopkins to echo the surrounding Victorian silhouette. An underground passage links it directly to the parliamentary estate. Visitors along the Embankment see its imposing frontage above Westminster Underground station, though interior access is limited to official business.
