Ikseon-dong is a compact hanok district in central Seoul, laid out in the 1920s as one of the city's early planned neighbourhoods of traditional courtyard houses. Its grid of tight alleys survived redevelopment pressures, and from the 2010s the tile-roofed hanok were adapted into cafes, boutiques and small restaurants while keeping their wooden frames and inner courtyards. Visitors thread through lanes barely wide enough for two people, passing shopfronts set behind low gates.
