The Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral, known as GAM, is a major arts complex on Alameda avenue in central Santiago, occupying a large modernist building from the early 1970s with a dramatic history tied to Chile's political past. Reopened as a cultural centre in 2010 after a fire and restoration, it houses theatres, concert and dance spaces, studios and exhibition halls behind a striking rust-coloured metal facade. It presents theatre, music, dance and visual arts, much of it accessible to the public.
