Housed within the Tokyo Opera City tower in Nishi-Shinjuku, this concert hall opened in 1997 with a distinctive tall, pyramid-shaped oak ceiling that gives it a soaring, cathedral-like feel. Seating around 1,600, it is prized for exceptionally clear acoustics well suited to orchestral and choral music, and it holds a large pipe organ. Named partly in memory of the composer Toru Takemitsu, it hosts symphonic concerts, recitals and contemporary music.
