Occupying a grand nineteenth-century building on Strasbourg's Place de la République, this is the only French national theatre based outside Paris. The structure originally served administrative functions during the German imperial period, reflected in its monumental sandstone architecture. Alongside its stages it houses one of France's leading drama schools, giving it a dual role as producer and training institution. Its imperial-era square is among the most imposing in the city.
