A small covered souk in the medina of Tunis long associated with the gold and jewellery trade, and historically remembered as a former slave-trading square in the Ottoman era. Today its shops sell gold, silver and jewellery beneath vaulted ceilings, forming one of the specialist markets that divide the old city by commodity. Located near the Zitouna Mosque at the medina's core, it sits amid souks dealing in perfume, textiles and traditional goods. Its layered history adds depth to a walk through the old town.
